When emergency help is needed in the case of a fall or other physical distress, the user presses the PERS transmitter's help button (in either pendant or wristband form). This sends a direct signal to the PERS console (connected to the user's regular telephone much like an answering machine).
The help button signal goes instantly to the call monitoring center. The user is identified on the line electronically. The responder receiving the call will then determine the nature of the emergency by talking to the user through a powerful two-way voice system in the console.
If the responder is unable to reach the user or determine whether or not an emergency exists, emergency services will be called to the home immediately. The call monitoring center will continue to monitor the situation via the speakerphone until the crisis is resolved.
